Details
Earlier this year I took up a friend’s challenge and I dipped my toe into the world of sock knitting.
Well, suffice to say, I tripped and tumbled way down deep into the rabbithole (and I am still tumbling, HAPPILY, I might add)
I present to you my Step To The Beat Socks. Pretty much a walk to sound of your own drum; live life on your own terms; dance to the tunes in your head….just be you.
This pattern features a 2 colour cuff, some pretty easy stranded colourwork, a heel flap and gusset and a contrast toe construction.
Here are all the necessary details you need to know:
Yarn: I used KYSO by Knotty Habit which is a Fingering Weight - 3ply Superwash- 75% Merino, 25% Nylon.
Colours used: (I included pics of all the different colours used in testing)
In the blue, pink and purple sets Natural was used for the MC with 2 Contrasting Colours. I used 2 different shades from the same colour family
You could also use 2 completing different colours as was used in the green and pink pair (A speckled background was used for the MC)
In one of the pairs I tested I used 1 colour for both colourwork sections: In this case I did NOT change colours when instructed to on the chart….I just kept going. It worked well.
Yarn Quantities:
For the MC I used 58g (213 m / 233 yds)
The colourwork section:
CC1 - approx 14g (52 m / 57 yds)
CC2 - approx 6g (22 m / 24 yds)
Needles: Always check your tension
Size 2.25 mm for the cuff, heel, gusset, foot and toe.
I have a tight tension so I used a 2.75 mm for the stranded colourwork on the leg.
Both sizes were 32” fixed circulars for Magic Loop.
Although this pattern is written for Magic Loop, if you are used to knitting socks, you may use DPNS or 9” circulars.
Notions:
Tapestry Needle for Kitchener stitch and weaving in ends
Stitch markers
